Capcom's Monster Hunter franchise does big business on the PSP in Japan. Bring that franchise to the Wii, Japan's bestselling console, and you're guaranteed massive success. Right? Well, maybe it's too early to tell.
While the most recent PSP version, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G was an instant success when it launched in early 2007, selling more than 700,000 copies in its first week, the Wii release was... more moderately successful. Monster Hunter G moved 132,000 copies during week one, according to Japanese sales tracker Media Create. Good, but not PSP good, leading me to believe we'll see the Japanese word for "evergreen" uttered from someone's lips in the coming weeks.
Other new chart toppers include the Japanese release of Killzone 2, which debuted in third place, moving 41,000 copies and the Xbox 360 port of loli-goth shooter Death Smiles, which also landed in the top ten.
The bestselling games in Japan for the week of April 20th to 26th are as follows.
01. Monster Hunter G (Wii) - 132,000 / NEW
02. Pokémon Fushigi no Dungeon: Sora no Tankentai (DS) - 54,000 / 196,000
03. Killzone 2 (PS3) - 41,000 / NEW

05. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (The Best) (PSP) - 23,000 / 613,000
06. Death Smiles (X360) - 20,000 / NEW
07. Sengoku Basara Battle Heroes (PSP) - 17,000 / 130,000
08. Mario & Luigi RPG3!!! (DS) - 17,000 / 558,000
09. Wii Fit (Wii) - 11,000 / 3,369,000

Also: return of Crying Freeman anime, live-action Uzumaki in North America
The North American DVD distributor Discotek has announced that it will release Hana Yori Dango Final: The Movie, Yasuharu Ishii's live-action theatrical finale to the Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers) television drama. The two television drama series are themselves based on Yoko Kamio's Boys Over Flowers shōjo romantic comedy manga. The two live-action television series and the film starred Mao Inoue as the strong-willed girl named Tsukushi who perseveres at an elitist academy and in life after high school.
Discotek will ship the film on August 25. The film ran in selected American film festivals as well as on some trans-Pacific airline flights. Viz Media released the manga and anime versions of Hana Yori Dango in North America.
Discotek is also reissuing Higuchinsky's live-action film adaptation of Junji Ito's Uzumaki horror manga in September and Toei Animation's complete Crying Freeman anime series (pictured at left) at a date to be determined. Elite Entertainment had previously released Uzumaki in English in 2004, while ADV Films had released Crying Freeman in 2003. Discotek had already announced that it will release the first animated Fist of the North Star Movie
Discotek's other title announcements include the following:
July 28:
Oh! My Zombie Mermaid (Ah! Ikkenya Pro-Wres)
September:
Sex and Zen
October:
Tokyo 10+1
Date to be determined:
Stormriders
Burning Paradise
Taxi Hunter
Female Prisoner Scorpion Jailhouse 41
Kani Goalkeeper (Crab Goalkeeper)
Discotek Media launched in 2005 with an announcement that it will release anime as well as live-action films.

Behold the ultimate blueness of Aksys Games' newly revealed limited collector's edition of BlazBlue.
Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Arc System Works' latest 2D fighter are getting the big box treatment by Aksys. The set not only contains a very pretty box and the game itself, but a 2-disc, 42-song soundtrack set and a bonus disc containing tutorials from the experts at Dustloop.com and Shoryuken.com. The video walks you through each character, showing you the ins and outs and delivering special tips for getting the most out of your favorite fighters.
How much would you pay for this much BlazBlue? That's the best part. The limited edition set is $59.99, the same price as the game alone. In fact, players who've already pre-ordered the game are getting a free upgrade to the limited version. If you've not pre-ordered yet though, you might want to get that done now, as the limited edition set is first-run only, with the second run consisting of the game all by itself, looking sad and lonely.
Check out the Xbox 360 version of the limited edition below, which is exactly the same as the PlayStation 3 version, except for the lack of blu-ray and a bit more green.
