Neon Genesis Evangelion Torso Water Bottles

Looks like in Japan they are bringing out more Evangelion merchandise, this time water bottles. Torso water bottles that is, one that looks like Rei Ayanami plug suit and the other Asuka Langley Sohryu plug suit. Bottled with mineral water from Kagoshima, they'll be available in Japan starting this April for ¥368 (US$3.90). I would love to get ahold of these, i hope i can find and import them. Seems Evangelion will never die out.

Giant Gundam Returns With Giant Beam Saber

\Ready to slice you up! After being erected this past summer in Tokyo's Odaiba, the life-sized Gundam statue is returning. With an beam saber.

The huge 18-meter statue will be once again erected in the city of Shizuoka this July - specifically, the east exit of Japan Rail Higashi-Shizuoka Station. The beam saber even lights up at night.

The city of Shizuoka guestimates that the statue is able to draw 900,000 visitors and 40 billion yen over the course of 300 days. The statue will also create 9,600 jobs for things like security, maintenance and the like.

Why Shizuoka? The Production Factory for Bandai's Gundam plastic models are located in Shizuoka. This is a homecoming of sorts. A really, really big homecoming.

Originally, the statue went up in Tokyo's Odaiba last July for the 35th Anniversary of Gundam and was taken done in September. The statue was visited by over 4 million.

Shoujo Byou Dōjin Music CD Listed with Animated DVD

Group's major label debut, Sōhaku Shisuferia, to ship in December

The Neowing retail website lists a bundled DVD for the Sōhaku Shisuferia CD single release from the Shoujo Byou (Girl Disease) dōjin musical group. This December 23 release from Bandai's Lantis label is the major label debut for Shoujo Byou, which has mostly self-published its symphonic rock-influenced music until now. According to Neowing, the Sōhaku Shisuferia DVD will feature "artistic" music video work with some animation footage. No other distributor currently lists a CD/DVD bundle for the upcoming single. The release will include narration from Miyuki Sawashiro, Aki Toyosaki, Tetsuya Kakihara, and Kana Hanazawa, as well as a collection of production materials for the video footage.

Japanese Voice Actress Getting Her First Trading Cards

When we were kids, we collected baseball cards. Jose Canseco, Mark Grace and Ken Griffey, Jr. In Japan, kids these days (hey, more like adults!) can collect voice actress cards.

Vocal thespian Rie Tanaka (Phantasy Star Portable, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3) is releasing her first set of "trading cards" this September.

One pack will set you back ¥525 (US$5.50), while a box is priced at ¥6,300 ($66). A carton is ¥107,100 ($1,100). There are 147 different cards. Collect 'em all!

Guin Saga Author Kaoru Kurimoto Passes Away at 56

Guin Saga's 126 main volumes, 21 side story volumes inspired manga, anime.

Kaoru Kurimoto, the mystery, fantasy, and historical novelist best known for her Guin Saga epic series, has passed away on Tuesday at 7:18 p.m. She was 56. She was in a Tokyo hospital due to pancreatic cancer which was diagnosed in 2007. She leaves behind her husband Kiyoshi Imaoka.

Kurimoto was born under the name Sumiyo Yamada on February 13, 1953 in Tokyo. Under the names Kaoru Kurimoto and Azusa Nakajima, she wrote hundreds of novels and stories, including The Sword of Paros (which was adapted into manga by Yumiko Igarashi) and Makai Sui Koten. However, her most well-known work is the the Guin Saga novel series, which spanned 126 main volumes and 21 side story volumes and sold 30 million copies. It inspired both a manga series drawn by Hajime Sawada and a television anime series which premiered in April.

Evangelion Films' 'Nerv Only' Phone to Be Sold in Japan

A page on the official Japanese Evangelionrevealed that the mobile phone provider NTT docomo will offer a special "Nerv Only" phone model to tie into next month's Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance anime film. Director Hideaki Anno and his Studio KharaEvangelion films. Evangelion: 2.0 is the second of Anno and Khara's four theatrical remakes of Gainax's Neon Genesis Evangelion science-fiction television anime series, and Nerv is the secretive multinational organization of the main characters. NTT docomo will provide more details on the phone in the near future. website has company supervised and participated in all aspects of the phone's design (including the accessories and packaging), since the phone was specifically designed for use in the new Evangelion films. Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Shonen Ace magazine offered an official Evangelion cellular phone in the 1990s, but that earlier phone was just a regular model (already available on the marketplace) with a logo added on the case. The second film will open in Japan on June 27. Funimation announced on New Year's Eve that it will release the first film in the remake, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, in North America this year.
